Inspiration Behind the Project
Buraya Bakarlar was an iconic poster ad displayed in Ankara subway stations, primarily in the 2000s. Its main purpose was to sell ad space, with the message "Buraya Bakarlar" (They look here) aimed at potential advertisers.
However, the poster contained very little information, and its vagueness gave it a mysterious feel for viewers. This transformed it into a symbol of Ankara, surpassing its original intent. Over time, Buraya Bakarlar inspired many parodies by Turkish artists and designers. I decided to take this attention grabbing parody approach and subverting its message to talk about freedom of expression drawing inspiration from three monkeys.
